Mokattam is a neighborhood located at the top of Mokattam Hill in Cairo. It is divided into three plateaus: the upper, middle, and lower (small) plateaus. Among its most important modern facilities are the Muslim Brotherhood headquarters, the new Hunting Club, a number of banks and private companies, and Emaar's Uptown project.
Divisions
The main square is Fountain Square, and one of the most important streets is 9th Street, which is the main street.
It was the key to the Islamic conquest of Fustat, the capital of Egypt at that time, when Amr ibn al-As used it to control all the neighborhoods of Fustat from above, monitor the movements of enemy armies, and respond to them.
It is worth noting that the foothills of Mokattam contain the tombs of some of the Companions of the Prophet.
A residential complex was built at the end of 9th Street and named the Earthquake Housing after the 1992 earthquake, when a large number of earthquake victims were relocated there.
Construction in Mokattam began in the early 20th century by an Italian company.
